Let's Talk About Stress Baby


Such a liberally used words, it peppers our everyday language and frames our personal stories, and yet we so underrate the gravity of its impacts on our mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.

Stress - how do I harm thee? Let me count the ways…

I have to admit that I used the words “I’m so stressed” a lot. Sometimes in my description of my day to others, sometimes in my personal monologue to myself. I’m not implying that I overuse the term. Not in the least - if I’m stressed I know it (my personality profile is skewed slightly to the neurotic side so being somewhat susceptible to stress is part of my nature) - the trick is not to get stuck in the stress hamster wheel but rather do something about it. More on that later.

Have you noticed how when someone tells you to calm down, relax, or stop stressing, the exact opposite happens? Could it be that stress is not the problem? Rather, is it our relationship with stress. Stress is a normal inbuilt mechanism that does a job. Yes, admittedly, in today's fast paced, super-stimulated world it's being worked overtime....

The beauty that is there

About recognizing the beauty around and within yourself that is already there, instead of living in a constant state of longing and perceived lack.

An opportunity to become still and center your awareness on something the soul innately recognises as beautiful. Connect to a truth within yourself that is always there - disconnecting even for a moment from the chatter of ego centred thoughts and emotions, and aligning momentarily - for now - with a pure source that always resides within nature. And become conscious of the ubiquitousness of this source and its presence within yourself.

As Eckhart Toll so wisely and beautifully states: “You do not become good by trying to be good, but by finding the goodness that is already within you, and allowing that goodness to emerge. But it can only emerge if something fundamental changes in your state of consciousness.”

Our outer world is often a reflection of our inner world, and what we would all benefit to accept is that we have more control than we admit on our inner world. One way in which we can influence how our outer world manifests is buy being more intentional in where we are directing our attention. Once we allow ourselves to lay our defenses, shields and sword down, we open the door to our conscious selves and provide an opportunity for positive things to manifest in our psyches and spill over into our outside lives. 


No place like home

There is no place like home. But what is home? Is home actually a...feeling? The feeling of home - belonging. Research showing effects of feeling belonging to their health? Ostriches represent home for me. Let an ostrich SME by birth tell you: ostriches DO NOT BURY THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND!
